Do I need to have played a game before?
No. It’s absolutely fine if you have never played, we just ask that you have read the rules before arrival. We’re a community, and everyone is more than happy to answer any questions you might have before and during gameplay. It is very common for the first game of the day to take longer, as everyone is figuring the game out a little, so please don’t worry.
Where are events held?
At present, all Tidewater Events are help at The Great Escape, based on Grimsby Docks. To learn more about the venue, why our players love supporting it and what they do for our local community, click here to find out more about The Great Escape.
How much does it cost?
Each event is priced a little differently, therefore we recommend checking out the individual event listings for all pricing details.
Is there a limitation to the number of participants?
Yes, due to the size of the venue, each event will be limited based on the number of tables we can comfortably fit. Check the individual event listings for specific details regarding maximum numbers.
Can my child participate?
Children over the age of 12 are more than welcome, as long as they are accompanied by an adult (playing or spectating). If your child is below the age of 12, please get in touch to discuss if we are able to accommodate them.
Is the venue accessible?
The downstairs of The Great Escape is fully accessible with a ramped entrance available and a beautiful disabled toilet (when you see it, you’ll understand why we say it’s beautiful!!).
As long as we know in advance, we will do our best to accommodate your needs, so that all your games are downstairs and boards are moved around where possible, so you get the full experience. Please contact us to discuss anything else we can do to help you, in terms of accessibility.
Are the events LGBTQ+ friendly?
Absolutely. Tidewater Events has a zero tolerance policy of any type of discrimination based on gender or sexuality. Feel free to have a read of our Safe Space Manifesto.
Are the events competitive?
Absolutely not! We know some players enjoy the competitive nature of gaming, however we try our best to foster a friendly and easy-going environment, where players love to lose just as much as they enjoy winning. As we like to say, it is not about the winning, it is the journey we take together.
Do I need to bring my own miniatures?
Yes, although if you want to come along and don’t have any miniatures, please contact us and we should be able to loan you some to play with.
Will there be opportunities to socialise with other players?
The entire event is based around meeting other players, and we try our best to ensure everyone plays as many different gamers as possible. There will also be plenty of time to chat and get to know others, during the lunch break.
Is food provided?
Food is not included in the ticket price. However, our amazing host Jon always puts on lunch for us, with accommodations made where necessary for allergies and dietary needs. Lunch typically costs around £4-£5, and is optional. Most players usually choose this option, but if you fancy something a little different, you are more than welcome to being your own food, and you can also check out our Places To Eat page. Drinks and snacks are also available, throughout the day, for a small charge, from the downstairs Black Gull cafe (part of The Great Escape).
Can I attend if I am new to tabletop gaming?
Absolutely! All of our events are designed for all levels from beginner, and our more experienced players are always more than happy to guide you. The only requirement we ask, is that you read the rules for the specific game, before you arrive.
Can I bring a friend to spectate?
Of course. You are more than welcome to bring along a non-playing friend. We just ask that they add their name to the sign-sheet, just so that we know who is in the building, in the event of an emergency.
Is there a way to connect with others before the event?
Yes! We have a Discord that you are more than welcome to join to connect with other players.
What do I need to bring with me?
Driving Licence: This might sound like a weird one, however if you are driving onto the docks, please be aware that you may be stopped by ABP Security. You will normally be asked for your name and where you are going (simply tell them you are going to The Great Escape), and you may be asked to show photo ID; for example, a driving licence.
Usually, you will need to bring:
- Army for the day
- The Rule Book
- Tape Measure
- Any dice required by the game
- Anything else required will be listed on the Event page, as well as in the Player Pack that you will receive prior to the event.
What is your Refund Policy?
Refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis, however any Refunds will be given minus card transaction fees, which are out of our control. Absolutely no refunds will be given in the two weeks before an event. No exceptions.
