Our Story

In March 2025, Chris’ Mum Lynne was officially diagnosed with Alzheimers.

It was an unnecessarily long and frustrating process, and Chris wanted to do something to raise awareness of this disease, and hopefully play a part in making the process easier for others.

That’s why we are going for a walk…a very long walk. Not just around the block, but across Middle-Earth.

Over the next 12 months, we’re taking on a challenge that frankly terrifies us; walking the distance* from Bag End to Mount Doom; to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

We’re unfit, overwhelmed, and wildly unprepared. But we’re definitely not going to let that stop us.

This isn’t just about fundraising. It’s about reclaiming our health, taking back control over our weight and our mental wellbeing, whilst proving to ourselves (and maybe you too) that we’re capable of more than we ever believed.

We’ll be sharing every step, every setback, every tear, and every single hard-won milestone.

Want to walk with us – literally, or from the comfort of your phone?

You can support our journey, in two ways:

  1. Make a donation to our JustGiving page, and help us raise as much money as possible for Alzheimers Society.
  2. Support us, and our journey by joining our Patreon. For as little as £3 or £10 a month, you’ll become a key part of the Fellowship – cheering us on, helping choose challenges, and getting an inside look at the highs, lows and hilarity of this absurd adventure.

We hope that you will walk this journey with us, and for Lynne, so that we can help other family’s that are affected by Alzheimers, and for anyone who’s ever thought they weren’t capable of something this big (because hey, if four hobbits from Bag End can do it, so can we, right?).

*Note: The actual distance will not match the actual number the Hobbits took, but has been made a little more realistic for two overweight beginners. It will still be a huge challenge for us. It’s also important to remember that the journey didn’t really happen, so this was never going to be that serious anyway!
