Grimy. Root-soaked. Deliciously absurd.
Welcome to the world of Turnip28, where mud is plentiful, vegetables are sacred, and battlefields look like something out of a half-forgotten nightmare. At Tidewater Events, we bring this strange and wonderful game to life in a way that’s fun, inclusive, and gloriously narrative.
What is Turnip28?
Turnip28 is a post-apocalyptic miniatures wargame where forgotten armies march through muck and misery under the banner of root vegetables. Think Napoleonic uniforms mixed with cabbage leaves, rust, and despair. It’s part satire, part serious tactical skirmish, and part hobby playground.
If you love painting weird miniatures, telling darkly comic stories, and playing games where victory is less important than the spectacle, Turnip28 is for you.
How does the Game play?
Scale: Small skirmish battles (20–30 miniatures).
Playtime: 1–2 hours per game.
Style: Fast, narrative-driven, tongue-in-cheek but still tactical.
Accessibility: Beginner-friendly; you don’t need years of wargaming experience or any at all.
Why play Turnip28 at Tidewater Events?
At Tidewater Events, our venue is a small one, meaning that our events will always be small in size (there will never be more than 22 players total). So, if you get overwhelmed by large groups, then this is a great event to start with.
Our events aren’t about competition; they’re about creativity and storytelling, so you can expect:
- Narrative scenarios with a muddy twist.
- A friendly, inclusive community who love a bit of vegetable-based chaos.
- Plenty of encouragement whether you’re a seasoned player or turning your first potato-headed soldier.
- Space to showcase your painted miniatures, conversions, and terrain.
Getting Started
You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly painted army or deep knowledge of the rules. We welcome:
- Beginners: New players can learn as they go.
- Proxies & Conversions: In the true Turnip spirit, we love creative minis; kitbashes, 3D prints, or improvised radish soldiers.
- Spectators: Curious? You’re welcome to come along and watch.
FAQs
Whilst it is a huge part of the fun of Turnip28 to have your own unique-to-you army, we often have a spare army that we can lend.
We also run a 3D printing business, so if you require any model printing, we are more than happy to help wherever possible, so feel free to drop us a message.
Not required, but it is encouraged to add to the overall experience. Unpainted models are more than welcome though.
No, the rules for Turnip28 are very easy to learn. If you’ve ever played a skirmish wargame before, you’ll pick it up quickly. It’s a great game for both beginners and accomplished players.
